Our Little Patch

Holly Harrap started her garden to teach her children life skills, and it literally ‘grew’ from there. She and her family grow as much food as they can in raised beds on an 800m2 house block. COVID has made Holly even more aware of the value of living sustainably. While she is the garden’s primary carer, her husband and kids join in too.

In our food garden

My children eat lettuce, spinach, and snow peas fresh from the patch. Growing different varieties of tomatoes is my favourite thing.

Standout sustainable practices

We ‘grow vertically’ wherever we can to help maximise our space. We build raised beds for soil control, and we have a worm farm and a compost tumbler. We don’t use any sprays in our garden.

Top tip for novice gardeners

Just start! Because everything is rewarding!! You’ll make mistakes and learn from them. Follow gardening accounts and form gardening friendships. The gardening community is there to help and support you.

Look out for

Prepare to be surprised by how much you can grow in a typical everyday backyard.

For sale on the day

We’re planning to have a tiny table with some small surprises for sale.
